(Valentine's) Weekending

Aaaah. A three day weekend was exactly what I needed. Monday was Family Day so Mike and I both had the day off.
Backing up to Thursday, we did a little girls' night at a friend's house. Lattes and donuts were on the menu. Girl talk is seriously so fun.

On Saturday, Mike and I made a long-overdue trip across the border. It has been a second since we went to the States because our dollar has been so bad. (I'm a broken record about the exchange, I know.) We originally only planned on going to the UPS store to pick up some packages, going to Target (me), and grabbing a quick lunch. When it came time to choosing a lunch spot, we felt blah about all of our options and Crazy Mike suggested we go to Chick-Fil-A. Why is this crazy? Because the closest location is 2 hours away from Niagara Falls. In a different state. But we had nothing else going on that day, so why not? We hit the I90 and made the 100+ mile trek to Erie, PA just for lunch. And let me tell you, totally worth it. So delicious! We also bought a tub of their special sauce to take home with us.

Next up, the highly anticipated Target trip. I wanted to buy all the things. Makeup, candles, house stuff, clothes. But given that everything would cost me an additional 40%, I was a good girl and only got a few things including a utility jacket (I LOVE that jacket), a casual tee, a black tank, and a couple face masks.

Erie got hit with a bit of a blizzard, which we didn't exactly know about. The snow was intense and visibility wasn't great but we made it back home safely.

Sunday morning I prepared a cute Valentine's themed breakfast for Mike. Heart shaped pancakes and eggs with a message were on the menu. I think he liked it :)

In the evening, we were invited to Mike's cousins' house for a Valentine's dinner and game night. They spoiled us with lobster, beef wellington, chocolate-covered strawberries, cheesecake and champagne. Waaaay better than any restaurant we could have gone to!

Monday included sleeping in, cleaning, heart-shaped pizza, and the Grammys. The perfect extra day off, if you ask me.

My favourite looks from the Grammys were Ellie Goulding (the back of that dress!), Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Carrie Underwood. Red and pink were very prominent on the red carpet to celebrate Valentine's Day!

I loved reading about everyone's Valentine's celebrations! Hope you had a great one!

  7. Wow, Mike's cousins put together quite the spread! I also love your Valentine's Day breakfast that you made. It is adorable! It's interesting to see what you did on your trip to the States. Chick Fila and Target is a typical Saturday for me (I'm obsessed with both), so your post makes me more thankful for them!

  8. I love that you guys drove two hours just to eat lunch at Chick Fil A! It's so good so I definitely understand! And I go to Target for everything so I am suddenly very aware of how thankful I am to have one so close to my house!

  10. Tim was in Toronto over the weekend and he was telling me how crazy the exchange rate was. I love that you drove 100 miles just for lunch! I'm in PA, but the other side. Sounds like a pretty great Valentine's weekend! Have a great week!

  11. Oh girl, I don't know what I would do without a Chick-fil-A... we have FOUR within 10 miles of our house and we eat there a ton! I don't blame you at all for driving 100 miles out of the way to eat at one... TOTALLY worth it!

  14. Just having a drive for fun sounds fun. We didn't get that day off. I can't believe you traveled that far for lunch, but seriously chik fil a sounds sooo good right now I'd probably make a five hour drive for it haha. Love that utlity jacket! I have a few different types but I'm always on the market for more. I love the shirt too. Nice and comfy. Did you just get one or several? Sorry I didn't look at the link long enough to see if they had multiple colors. thank god you got back safely! I'd be scared to drive in the snow let alone a blizzard.

Your message is sooo sweet :) I'd definitely keep those pancakes though, I'm weird like that. that dinner looks fabulous...I love seafood too bad Kyle doesn't so we dont' eat it often. I love Ellie Goulding's dress, but Taylor's I wasn't a big fan of because of the mid-drift showing, but that's because I don't like showing mine.

  15. That's some true dedication to Chick-fil-a. I mean i don't blame you b/c it is the best fast food around but my drive is only 5 minutes. I can't wait for some Tim Hortons when I come to Canada this summer.

  16. Chick-fil-a is always worth it! They're sauces are always amazing, and you can't beat their fries! It sounds like your friends cooked up quite a spread! I don't think that I would have been able to function after that much food!

  17. Your weekend sounded amazing. We don't have a Chick-fil-a here either, so we have to drive about 2 hours to our nearest. So worth it. And that utility jacket is beautiful. I was at Target this weekend but didn't get to look at clothes much because I had fussy babies. That dinner looks amazing!!!!

  18. What a great weekend! I remember taking spontaneous 2+ hour road trips for food with my husband back in law school. Yum, Chick-fil-a is so worth it. And I'm obsessed with T-Swift's dress. She rocked it!

  19. You totally inspired me and we went to Chick-fil-A too! I love their sauce but totally forgot to try to buy more. I seriously could put that stuff on everything!
Your weekend sounds so fun!! I'd love to have a little girl time with coffee and donuts (my fave!) and then your Valentine's dinner sounds amazing!!!
If you don't mind my asking, what's Family Day? I thought it was a funny coincidence that you guys had yesterday off too since it is President's Day here and I assumed that you didn't celebrate that :)

  20. Aw! Your weekend sounds like it was so lovely! Your V-Day meal looks so yummy! And so does Chick-fil-a! Haha, those Grammy looks were also 4 of my favorites!

  23. Awww... it sounds like it was a great weekend! I've never had chick-fil-a so I don't get the draw but a 100+ mile road trip for food sounds fun anyway. :-)

  24. I love that you guys drove the extra two hours for Chick Fil A!!! That's totally something we would've done (pre-baby, of course, because now we can't get out of the car fast enough LOL).. I love taking back roads and prolonging road trips ha. Good job at resisting at Target! That's impressive =)

  25. I literally laughed out loud that you traveled 2 hours for chic-fil-a. I guess I didn't realize you don't have them in Canada? Or are they just really far? I laughed because I wanted some today but then I got home and decided I would just eat at home because I was sick of driving (my commute from work is 1 hr)and I didn't feel like driving the extra 15 minutes...but then I saw your photo and hearing that you had to travel so far...I'm feeling like I may take Chic-fil-a for granted! haha! Your Target comment also made me laugh because I feel like that's how most of us in the states have to shop (as though everything is 40% more) because if we didn't, we would buy all.the.things. Sometimes we do. haha!! Glad to see you guys had a great weekend! I watched Grammy's red carpet and my favorite dress was Tori Kelly! I wanted to like Taylor's but idk...I just don't really like her image so I think maybe that turned me off a bit? Maybe it was the slit all the way up? Speaking of which...Ciara's dress was not my favorite. I'm all for women wearing what they want though so my opinions are of course my own but Tori Kelly just looked SO stunning to me! Thanks a lot for making me want chic-fil-a! At least it's not Sunday! ha! xx

  26. We don't have a Chic-fil-a near us either, I'd say thats totally worth the few extra states ;) Holy heaven your V Day dinner looks and sounds glorious. And how cute are you with your pancake love letter?!
