Guys Behind The Blog - October

Happy Guys Behind The Blog Day!!!

I am so excited because today is the FIRST official episode of the Guys Behind The Blog link up since we brought it back to life. I used to participate in the Guys Behind The Blog link up on a regular basis. It's where I interview Mike with 5 questions and post his answers. I always loved hearing what he had to say. And now you can join in on the fun too!

The link up was originally hosted by Betsy at Heavens to Betsy and Laura at According to Laura JeanThey decided to discontinue to series so  Crystal from Hall Around TexasElizabeth from Chasin MasonJamie from Cocktails and CarseatsJessica from Secrets of a Stay at Home Mom and I thought it would be fun to take it over.

We posted the questions last month and in this episode we are talking all about Halloween! Here's what Mike had to say:

Q. What was your most favorite Halloween costume and why?
A:  I honestly can't even remember most of my costumes. I stopped trick-or-treating in 7th grade and I stopped caring a good while before that. I'd say my favourite was a Pittsburgh Steelers costume when I was probably 6 years old. We got it at a Toys R Us in Pennsylvania on one of our trips. I had a mini helmet and and the yellow pants and everything.

Q: Haunted Houses – love them or hate them?
A:  I am not a fan of haunted houses. I don't find them scary or even the idea of them fun. I just can't get excited for manufactured fright.

Q: What is your favorite scary movie of all time?
A: I'm going to switch it up here and name a scary TV show - Unsolved Mysteries. That theme song with Robert Stack's voice narrating still terrifies me. I can remember watching it when I was a kid and it scared the living daylights out of me. Why I voluntarily subjected myself to that I'll never know.

Q: If you had to attend a mandatory dress up Halloween party this year what would you go as?
A: If I had to go to a mandatory costume party (which I wouldn't because I hate costume parties - yeah, I know I'm no fun), I'd want us to go as Kanye and Kim. It'd be easy for me to throw on a Kanye shirt, some ripped joggers or jeans and a pair of Yeezys. I'm all about easy when it comes to Halloween.

Q: Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not?
A: Absolutely not. I definitely don't believe in the idea of ghosts haunting places. I have no idea what happens to our energy once our time here is done, but I just don't see there being ghosts.

Oh how I wish I was able to get my hands on a photo of little Mike in a Halloween costume!! I even struggled to find any of us together from the more recent years. Womp. The only time we ever did a couple costume was when we dressed up as Piper and Larry from Orange Is The New Black.

Did you ever do a couple costume? I want all the details!

This month's link up will stay open until November 3rd. We'd love it if you joined in on the fun! Scroll down below and add your link. And make sure to include the GBTB button from above!!

Next month's link up will be a week early because of American Thanksgiving. So join us on November 17th with the following questions for your guy:

1. What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? What is your least favourite?

2. What is a Thanksgiving tradition you liked growing up that you want to continue with your family? For example: Do you eat super early around 3pm or regular dinner time around 6pm? Do you watch football? Do you all go to a particular family member's house? Do you nap after the big meal?

3. What are your thoughts on Black Friday shopping? Yay or nay?

4. If you had it your way, would you set up your holiday decorations (Christmas tree, Hanukkah menorah, etc.) before or after Thanksgiving?

5. What are you most thankful for this year?

Weekending

Hello, hello! Happy Monday!

This weekend flew by. Don't they all? I'm sure I have said that several times in my weekending posts. And I'm sure I'll say it again! We didn't get quite everything done that we wanted to do but that's ok. We had perfect fall weather this weekend that called for ponchos, boots, and pretty plaid scarves.

The Friday excitement started out around noon. After weeks of planning, we celebrated my boss' retirement with a fun party. We had a great turnout and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. My favourite part was the speeches and the gorgeous cupcakes that were handmade for the event. I took a couple cake decorating classes in the past but I don't think I could ever duplicate these. They were so pretty, not to mention delicious!

Saturday morning I had a hair appointment to have my highlights touched up and what is there to do while the hair dye sets other than take snapchat selfies?

Saturday night Mike and I went to a new (to us) restaurant to celebrate a good friend's birthday. It was such a fun place! There was live music -- two guys in the middle of the restaurant that played guitar and piano and took requests for all sorts of songs. It seemed like they knew how to play everything! We ended up having everyone in the building sing Happy Birthday to my friend. It was fun to catch up with everyone there and eat delicious butter chicken (my favourite dinner!)

On Sunday we were supposed to visit another friend in Toronto but one of the major highways was closed for the weekend so we asked to reschedule. Driving into Toronto can be slow on the best of days and taking side streets to get downtown would basically take forever. So instead, we visited my mom and brother and went out for a delicious dinner to a Polish restaurant. I try to cook Polish food as often as possible but I can never top the way this restaurant makes it. I love going there! I had white borscht (┼╝urek) in a bread bowl.

And now we're ready for the week ahead. We don't have too much planned for this week other than catching up on chores and hopefully going for a walk or two before the weather cools down for good.

I hope you had a great weekend!

Thanksgiving Celebrations

Thanksgiving was in full swing at our house this past weekend. It was delayed by a week because we were travelling on actual Thanksgiving but I definitely didn't want to miss it! So this weekend we did the whole turkey thing with my family and Mike's family. I don't usually get to host holiday dinner because we only have a table that seats four but if we squish, we can make six work. It is my dream to one day have a huge dining room that can seat a ton of people for the holidays! Because this was a delayed celebration, we only had my mom and brother, Mike's parents, and us.

My mom and I made several dishes, but among them was Polish apple pie. It's probably my all-time favourite dessert. I posted the recipe last year when we made it and it turns out delicious every time!

My mom and brother came over for the whole weekend. The weather was nice and we had fun for three whole days. A little bit of Monopoly (I won!) and video games (I lost) and we were happy campers.

Other than that, we watched football, Skyped with my family in Poland, and just relaxed and enjoyed each others' company. I love how low-key ands tress-free Thanksgiving is. I think that's why it's one of my favourite holidays!

Five on Friday

1. This weekend we are celebrating (Canadian) Thanksgiving! It was technically last weekend, but since we took advantage of the long weekend to travel, we have to postpone it. We're going to have my mom and brother and Mike's parents over for dinner this Saturday. Here's a little recap of last year's Thanksgiving (and my first ever turkey!)

2. If you haven't already guessed, we went to North Carolina this past weekend. If you've been around this blog for a while, you know that Mike is a huge UNC Tar Heels fan so we road tripped to see a football game. It was our first home game and Hurricane Matthew came to hang out too so that was fun. We actually had a great time! More on that later.

3. We ordered a Magic Bullet. Mike and I love smoothies and we go to Booster Juice a few times a week which can get pretty expensive! We figured that we could find the recipes online and make the smoothies ourselves. I feel like we are the last people on earth to get a mini blender but my mom raves about it and it's time. I can't wait to try it!

4. I am still working my way through reading my blogger book swap books. I have finished reading Amy Schemer's book and now I'm in the middle of the Language of Flowers, which was my partner's pick for me. I. Love. This. Book. It's about a young girl that grew up in the group home system and has a love for flower meanings but a hatred for everything else. My mom owned a flower shop for many years so I was always around flowers. It's so good!

5. ICYMI, I am cohosting the Guys Behind The Blog linkup! After the series was cancelled by the original hosts, a few other bloggers and I got together to bring it back to life. I really hope you and your guy will join us on the last Thursday of every month. This month's answers will go live in two weeks, on Thursday, October 27th.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving!! Thanksgiving is one of my favourite holidays because it's in the fall, filled with family time, and has yummy food. This year we are on vacation in the States (which does not celebrate Thanksgiving today!) and we will spend the majority of the day on the road. We are planning on celebrating next week instead.

I have so very much to be thankful for this year! I'm so grateful and am really focusing on everything that I have been blessed with.

A very special thank you goes to everyone that has visited this little blog of mine. I appreciative you so much!

I want to wish everyone else celebrating today a very happy Thanksgiving!

Fallified Mantels

It's no secret that I love decorating or the season. Valentine's Day? Hearts everywhere. Christmas? We love gold accents. Spring? Raffia and pastels.  So now that fall is officially here, I brought out the autumn-themed decorations to display.

We have a corner fireplace with a pretty large mantel that I change up depending on the time of the year. Usually there are some fixed pieces like the big mirror in the middle and a plant that always stays up but the rest gets a big switcheroo.

This year I haven't had a chance to invest too much time into a mantel overhaul. In an effort to gain some inspiration for something new, I went online to see what other people were doing. I specifically looked for autumn themed and not Halloween themed. And clearly I am gravitating to light, bright, and airy. Which works perfectly because that's basically the theme of our house. Some were SO good that I had to share them with you guys!

I think I just discovered that I love white pumpkins and eucalyptus leaves. I guess my shopping list is quite short!

Are any of these making your heart smile? Do you prefer darker and bolder colours? Do you skip fall decorating and go only for Halloween? Tell me!
